2024 AND BEYOND
This is Pragmaticam and this is our journey, so far.
History
In 2009, Neal Bijlani and colleagues at LLB Architects took on a different approach to what was traditionally known as a "facilities audit". In anticipation of utilizing information in a more dynamic way, we suggested moving from static, periodic updates of facility information toward a dynamic, continuously updatable database format, ready for regular inquiry. This change represented a definitive shift from performing audits to delivering streamlined assessments, adaptable to various planning needs and suitable for diverse audiences.
Engagement first started from LLB Architects' core project types, primarily in education and moved through increasing sectors including municipal, public/private organizations, and institutions. Throughout these numerous projects, we were able to acknowledge the original purpose of these evaluations, and advocate for more thorough and potent approaches empowering clients to make better-informed strategic choices.
We investigated the impact of providing useful information on large-scale projects, while also reviewing our methodology for smaller-scale ones, all while considering consistency in our delivery method.
Current client needs helped us to internally develop efficiencies: we contemplated automation, app development, and other means of standardization. Yet, none seemed to fully meet the varied objectives of our clients. Consequently, we returned to proven applications and acknowledging the fundamental challenges of any facility and client, which is to provide necessary solutions and deliver them in a way that are accessible and beneficial.
During these years, we've encountered many success stories, starting with our initial processes on research and data collection. Many of these projects included a shift from 2D CAD-based planning to 3D BIM-based implementation. Other projects met strategic objectives while tackling the issues of facility management with accumulated maintenance needs.
After a decade and a half of exploration and accomplishments, we decided to broaden our work, putting emphasis on the benefits of facility analysis services, and continue to trust in the creative, resilient, and intelligent teams that have been integral to our previous achievements.
Our conviction lies in the power of design thinking, technology, expert consultation, and communication moving forward.

We help clients understand their facilities and empower them to drive positive outcomes
About Neal H. Bijlani
A design technologist and communicator.
Neal possesses a strong talent for blending architectural design concepts with innovative digital tools. While at LLB Architects, he played a key role introducing the integration of advanced technologies that have transformed how data is used in architecture. His tenure at LLB wasn't just about contributing to architectural projects; Neal took the lead as the main engineer in pioneering unique solutions for conducting space inventories and facility assessments. By leveraging BIM, a knowledge of databases, and cloud-based platforms, he promoted deep and adaptable analyses of buildings, spaces, and systems across facilities. These groundbreaking services and software solutions have been successfully deployed in distinguished organizations including Moses Brown School, Smith College, Rhode Island School of Design, Lincoln School, and the Boston Public Health Commission.
Neal draws inspiration from the power of thoughtful design, conveyed through illustrative, communicative, and technical means. He is inspired by the effectiveness of teamwork, and his ability to drive efficient, streamlined processes has made him an indispensable member across a large spectrum of design and exploratory ventures.
Additionally, in the Fall of 2024, Neal has been excited to return to Roger Williams University as an adjunct professor in a second-year architectural studio. This follows an impactful tenure since 2015, teaching and collaborating on a foundational architectural technologies class. This role reflects his ability to bridge traditional and contemporary design practices, and also highlights his devotion to learning, responding, and instructing. Neal is deeply committed to fostering rewarding professional, mentoring, and teaching careers for all aspiring architects.
